IEEE PES Atlanta – May 2018 Luncheon Meeting
May 8 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Transmission connected wind and solar plants are increasingly connecting to weak AC network locations because of the remote location of these resources and the increasing retirement of large thermal power plants. Weak AC networks pose a challenge because of reduced power transfer capacity of the transmission system and, in the case of power-electronic based generators, risks of control instabilities or unstable control interactions between plants. In this presentation, recent experience with these weak-system challenges is described and an example case study is presented.
